The increases come into effect on 1st May 2024, are the first since 2016 – but nevertheless the rises are considerably in excess of what might be expected if they were related to inflation. These fees are, of course, unavoidable for all limited companies, whatever size they are.
It will now cost £34 to file a confirmation statement (up from £13), and the strike-off fee rises from £10 to £33. All of these fees assume that the tasks will be completed digitally or via software; there is a premium of as much as 80% for completing them by paper-based means.
The Government says that there are more than five million companies registered in the UK, so the Treasury is set to receive a £100 million annual windfall through the increase in the confirmation statement fee alone.
The new fees also apply to limited liability partnerships and limited partnerships.
The fee increases are part of an overhaul of company law which is also introducing new non-financial requirements for limited companies, including the need for a registered email address, and the end of the ability to nominate a PO Box address as the company’s registered address.
